Anna noticed her friend's sad look.

"Guv, them men was fallin' over themsens 'cause they was wantin' YEZ. Not 'cause yez got them special spooky-doo, powerful, look thingemies." She grinned toothily.

"The term is glamour," Midona corrected her friend automatically.

"Being a gancanagh sucks sometimes." Midona sighed, more talking to herself than Anna, "Knowing that you're slowly killing the one you love, that a mere kiss is the incentive for their deaths. It's like that thing with Tsubaki. I could kill her...so easily.."

Anna smiled sadly. She was pretty herself, in a scruffy, street kind of way. Her hair could shine if let down. And her eyes could shine, too. And people had loved her. But granting her brother his dying wish and killing him before he died of his wounds, and existing on the edge of starvation and death had taken its toll. Her hair was always tied back to keep out of her way. And her eyes held a shadow. And she did not trust well, though she could fake it, because she feared letting herself be loved and loving in turn. The way she lived her life did not permit it.

Yet she trusted the strange girl in front of her. She wanted to know more. A feeling in her gut told her that life on Midona's side of the door would grant her many possibilites. She could feel it.

"I know it's 'ard, guv. Believe me, I know. But life... is fer livin'. And tha's what I do. And you will an' all, if I have anythin' to say about it." She flashed a genuine toothy grin.

"I know." Midona smiled, "This is the life fate has dealt me. I might as well make the most of it. They won't...die, unless I leave them, afterall."

"Always look on the bright side, guv." Anna grinned.

"Though, me dress 'as seen brighter days, I must say." She held up a skirt fold of the tatty garment she wore. "I can't afford a new 'un, though."
